Professional Background

Prerna Ostrowski (nee Bhatia) earned her Bachelor of Optometry from the University of in 2006, and she holds a therapeutic endorsement that allows her to prescribe ocular medications for various eye conditions. She started her career in regional Victoria, specifically in Gippsland, where she built a solid clinical foundation by handling a wide range of complex cases in a rural environment.

 

Afterward, Prerna spent several years practicing in metropolitan Melbourne, including a year focused on behavioural optometry. She has also gained valuable experience in children's vision through her work with different optometry throughout Melbourne.

  • Therapeutically Endorsed Optometrist – Prerna holds a therapeutic endorsement, allowing her to prescribe ocular medications for a range of eye conditions. With over a decade of experience in this field, she is highly skilled in managing red or sore eyes, treating eye infections, and removing superficial foreign bodies. Her clinical confidence and gentle approach ensure patients receive prompt and effective care for urgent eye health concerns.

  • Behavioural Optometry – Prerna is passionate about understanding how vision impacts learning and development, particularly in children. She has undertaken additional training in Practical Vision Therapy and continues to stay updated through her involvement with the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO).

  • Children’s Vision – With over a decade of experience in paediatric care, Prerna provides thorough assessments and tailored treatment plans to support children’s visual development and school performance.

  • Dry Eye Management – Prerna offers comprehensive care for patients suffering from dry eye, using the latest diagnostic techniques and therapies to improve long-term comfort and ocular health.

A committed member of Optometry Australia (OA) and ACBO, Prerna is dedicated to lifelong learning and professional development. Since 2016, she has also shared her expertise as a clinical supervisor for postgraduate students at the University of Melbourne Eyecare clinic, helping train the next generation of optometrists.
